Walter Herbert Fields

Walter Herbert Fields was born on October 26, 1947, to Warren and Rosa Lee (Capers) Fields in Allendale, South Carolina. His family relocated to Bradenton, Florida, in 1949.  In his adult years, Walter and his siblings formed a traveling gospel group called The Jewel Gospelletes. One of his favorite songs to sing was “You’ve Brought Me from a Mighty Long Way” by Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes.  Walter was never a stranger to hard work. His jobs included driving charter bus and semi-trucks nationwide. He later started his own roofing company, called Fields and Sons Roofing, where he passed down his trade to his sons.  Some continue to use those skills to this day. Due to an injury, in 1999, Walter was forced to retire from roofing.  Not long after retirement, Walter committed his life to serving the Lord. He served as Pastor of Faith Temple Life Changing Ministries in St. Petersburg, Florida, where God gave him a word that he carried with him until his final day: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit”, says the Lord of Hosts.  From that day forward, he sought to grow in the Lord in every area of his life and faithfully share God's Word with others.  Walter’s hobbies included fishing and watching movies, but nothing matched his love for football. He was a longtime fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Over the years, he also followed the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens. Ultimately, he became a devoted fan of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. On July 7, 1977, Walter was united in marriage to Annie Louise  Mitchell. In addition to his wife, Louise, Walter leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters, Sharetta Wright (Lawrence), Tonya Porter (Bernard), Bernadette Franklin, and Trinity Glover (Steven) and nine sons, Herbert Fields, Jr. (Denise), Anthony Barber (Shawn), Clarence Downs (Nafisah), William Downs (Talwanda), Reginald Fields (Lisa), Danny Kendricks (Toya), Terrance ‘Jack’ Fields, Terrance Johnson (Sandy), and Orion Brooks. One sister, Rosa Mae Peterson and one brother, Ernest Fields. He is also survived by many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Rosa Fields, his sons Andra Fields and Anthony Downs, and siblings Clarence Fields, Paul Fields, Nathan Fields, Delores Watkins, Margaret Knight, Annie Lou Singleton, and Camille Brown.
