Karl H. Kose was born in Ashburn, Georgia and grew up in Flushing, Ohio. He attended the Missionary Training Institute (now Nyack College) where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in l947. He married his high school sweetheart, Eloise Harper, on January 1, 1944. Upon graduating in 1947, they served pastorates in West Virginia before sailing for Gujarat, India in 1949 with an infant son.
During their thirty-eight years of ministry in India, Karl and Eloise were involved in district evangelism, literature production and distribution, radio programming in the Gujarati language, and field administration. For three years the couple served at Union Biblical Seminary where Karl was Business Manager and Eloise was Matron to the young women. They were involved in various ministries in local churches and with the Alliance Executive Committee, notably the turnover of property and ministries to the Gujarat Alliance Church in 1986.
They retired in 1987 and lived for a time in Coshocton, Ohio before moving to Bradenton Missionary Village in Bradenton, Florida. They were active in the life of the village until health problems necessitated a move in 2008 to the beautiful Shell Point Retirement Village in Fort Myers, where they resided in an assisted living facility.
Karl enjoyed singing and story-telling. He loved to travel and over the years took his family to many interesting places in India, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Karl and Eloise were devoted to each other and were happily married for 70 years.
Eloise predeceased Karl in 2014. He is survived by sons Rajan and Kevin, and daughter Rebecca; daughter-in-law Rebecca and son-in-law Mike; 7 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. All who loved him will greatly miss him—especially his gentle voice, his ready smile, and the love he brought into their lives. Graveside service will be held 3pm Wednesday May 22, 2019 at Skyway Memorial Gardens.
