George Duval Rhodes Sr. was born October 3, 1947 to the late Buster and Lillie Rhodes Peterson. He was a Florida Native that attended Lincoln Memorial Elementary and later Lincoln Memorial High. During his studies in High School, he was engaged in basketball and had a pure passion for football where he was their known Quarterback. He graduated in the “Class of 1966”. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Airforce where he served four years including a stint in Vietnam He later entered into the construction industry. With many challenges and his given determination, he was able to conquer construction and become known as one of the “Best in Manatee County”.
George during his later years, was very active as an alumni of Lincoln Memorial High School and participated in the Award Winning Documentary….”Through The Tunnel”.
George is preceded in death by his Son: Shedwin Toomer Rhodes; Brother: Sylvester Collins and Sister: Tommy Gilmore. While he leaves cherished memories to his Companion Carolyn Anderson; Daughters: Lorraine Rhodes, Monique Rhodes and Quotisha Rhodes (all of Palmetto, FL; Son: George “Tank” Rhodes Jr. of Bradenton, FL; Great Niece: Chloe Pressey of Palmetto, FL; Sisters: Francena Richardson, Gwendolyn Peterson, Sheila (James) Mapps (all of Manatee Co., FL) and Brenda Peterson of Boynton Beach, FL; Grandchildren: Marcus Waiters, Shaquille Mays, Diamond Mays, Bobby Spain, Chelsea Hatch, Travious Rhodes, Tyrone Johnson, Jaylen Rhodes, Jarrod Rhodes, Jordan Dunlap, and Jyce Johnson; 5 Great Grandchildren; Special Friends: Willie Haynes and Eugene Waiters and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation 6-8pm Friday, November 23, 2018 with Homegoing Celebration 1pm Saturday, November 24, 2018 (both at New Life General Baptist Church) 609 9th Street West Bradenton, Florida 34221. Burial will be 10:30am Monday, November 26, 2018 at Sarasota National Cemetery.
