Elizabeth Ward Wesley, affectionately known as Madea was born on July 16, 1927 and was the last surviving child of the late Leonard and Beulah Ward. She is preceded in death by siblings, Rev Leonard Ward, Nathaniel Ward, Lonnie Ward, Roosevelt Ward, Pete Ward, Annabelle Ward, Ethel Ward and Bertha Ward.
She was a traveling midwife and wonderful nurse's aide at the Pines of Sarasota, until she retired. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a strong believer of the word of God. She loved the Lord, and lived an example of the teachings of the Father that she shared with her family. She always wanted her family to come to church. She said one thing I know about God is that He has truly taken care of me and my children. Elizabeth loved to cook and bake, she was known for her famous cakes and pies, people would come from everywhere just to purchase them. In her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing, but if you had to ask what her favorite thing to do was, her response would “ALWAYS” be “seeing all of her family together, laughing and having a good time”.
She was a long time devoted member of Mt Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, where her parents (Leonard and Beulah Ward were pioneers of the original church), She was a proud member and served as a deaconess, she was on the Usher Board, Senior Women Mission, attended City Wide-Mission and Usher Union, and was an Eastern Star.
She loved her Tallevast community where she resided until God called her to accept her wings and serve as a door keeper at heaven’s gates while reuniting with her children who preceded her in death, Michael Wesley, James Byrd, Jr, Reginald Wesley and Evelyn Johnson, to continue to praise God. Elizabeth leaves a long legacy of 6 generations to carry on her loving, caring spirit and the family name to her beloved children, Lula Willams, Carolyn Sanders, Tommie Caldwell all of Tallevast, Fl, Linda (Rico) Lopez, Palmetto, Fl and Brenda (Nelson) Page, Jacksonville, Fl; special children, Debora Faye Jones, Essie Waters-Jefferson, Rev. Willie Charles Shaw, Ray Ruiz, Flora Bryant and Lillie Ford, sister in law, Shirley Ward. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren and great-great-great-great-grandchildren (“affectionately known as “her fat babies”), nieces, nephews and extended loved ones.
