Arthur Mae Washington 95 of Palmetto, Florida was born March 24, 1924 to parents Noah and Maggie Powell in Ellenton, Florida. She was a woman of God who worked hard, provided for her family and instilled valuable life skills, morals and values in not only her own children but many children in the neighborhood. Arthur married David D. J. Washington on November 13, 1943. She was converted and baptized at an early age by Rev. Dixon at Mt. Raymond Missionary Baptist Church and she faithfully served on the Deaconess Board under the leadership of Pastor S. D. Pollard. She continued to serve as a Mother of the Church under the leadership of Pastor Jason Williams. Arthur was a great cook and was famous for her Sunday dinners. She was the type of woman who said what she meant and meant what she said. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband David Sr. and daughters Stella Johnson and Violet Hardy. Arthur leaves most cherishing memories to her children Gloria Ruff of Riviera Beach, Florida, Shirley "Elmore" Brinson of Palmetto, Florida, David "Janice" Washington of Palmetto, Florida, Willie Washington of Palmetto, Florida and Freda Anderson of Palmetto, Florida; brother: Maxie Powell of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister in laws Rosa Powell, Helen Powell, Leila Mitchell and Flora Mathis; brother In Law Henry Washington; 34 grandchildren and a host of loving great grands and great great grandchildren; special friends Mildred Freeman and Harold and Mildred Barton; special daughter Carolyn "Cat" Lewis and a host of extended family and friends including the children of 30th Street in Washington Park. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Friday, April 19, 2019 at New Life General Baptist Church 609 9th Street West Palmetto, Florida 34221 and Homegoing Celebration 1:30pm Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Mt. Raymond Full Gospel Church 2410 4th Avenue East Palmetto, Florida 34221.
